It’s been roughly 5 years since we last heard from Blake Sennet (Rilo Kiley guitarist) and his band known as The Elected – I remember being really into the sophomore album Sun, Sun, Sun back in ‘06, but had since forgotten those days. Until, of course, Bury Me In My Ring came along and reminded me how much I appreciate ’em all over again.
One representative track from the latest offering, Go For The Throat (above), is a sunny day jam with an upbeat melody/harmony that nearly forces you to sing along – plus it uses one of my favorite musical tricks: the once fairly prominent, now almost a relic (at least in indie music) – the key-change.
Bury Me In My Ring is due out on May 17th via Vagrant Records. You can download Go For The Throat for an email address by visiting Stereogum – do it! You can also hear another track, Babyface, at Austin Town Hall.
