Born in Hafnarfj?reur, Iceland, Sóley has been wowing audiences around the globe with her dark, fairytale song craft, as well as her dream-like and surreal take on composition, since 2010. Having studied piano and later composition at the Icelandic Art Academy, Sóley (who was formerly a member of the band Seabear) released her first solo effort Theater Island EP (2010), followed by her fantastical debut full-length We Sink (2011), and recently a short EP entitled Krómantík (2014). Sóley is now returning with her sophomore album Ask The Deep, set for release on May 12 via Morr Music.

Still drawn to dark, nocturnal themes, Ask The Deep sees the multi-instrumentalist branch out musically, charting new sonic territory—and fighting the devil inside. Relying on guts, ghost ships, and a sonic map that doesn’t show the same piano coordinates as before, Sóley leads us deeper and deeper into the shadowy fairytale worlds only hinted at on previous releases. Changing tactics to fight her inner demon with every track, Ask The Deep sees the songwriter open Pandora’s box—and close it eventually. At least for now.
