Dave Matthews是上世紀九十年代之后美國涌現出的極具實力的新一代搖滾樂男歌手，在90年代之后的美國搖滾樂界具有重要的地位。1967年1月9日，Dave Matthews出生在南非的約翰內斯堡。1991年他在美國弗吉尼亞州招攬了Stefan Lessard，Leroi Moore，Boyd Tinsley和Carter Beauford這幾個人，組建了自己的樂隊the Dave Matthews Band。起初Dave Matthews和他的這支樂隊并不為人所知，但是通過在美國大學校園內的一系列的巡回演唱會，樂隊和Dave Matthews本人的知名度一步步地擴大，并且初步擁有了一些固定歌迷的支持。1993年，樂隊在美國各地的巡回演唱會結下了果實，他們獨立發行了一張現場專輯《Remember Two Things》。隨后他們就引起了一些大的主流唱片公司的注意，RCA唱片公司最終和他們簽約。
